Excel Recruitment is delighted to partner with the HSE in recruiting a Therapy Assistant for a modern Transitional Care Step-Down Unit in Raheen, Limerick. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity to join a compassionate, forward-thinking multidisciplinary team dedicated to helping patients regain independence and return home safely following acute illness, surgery, or injury.

This purpose-built facility offers 80 single-occupancy en-suite rooms, designed to provide a comfortable, homely environment while delivering high-quality rehabilitation, reablement, and ongoing medical monitoring.

Job Purpose

The Therapy Assistant will play a vital role in supporting Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred rehabilitation services. Working with patients during a crucial stage of their recovery journey, you will assist in therapy programmes that promote mobility, function, confidence, and independence, helping patients transition safely from hospital to home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver an effective and efficient therapy assistance service to inpatients under the direction of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
  • Assist with the safe transfer and mobilisation of patients to and from therapy sessions.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment areas, including gym and rehabilitation spaces, ensuring equipment is clean, safe, and ready for use.
  • Support therapists during assessments by assisting with patient movement, positioning, and stabilisation.
  • Assist with treatment interventions, particularly where two or more therapists are required.
  • Carry out prescribed exercise programmes with patients and accurately document all interventions and progress.
  • Support patients with mobility, passive range of motion, and assisted movement exercises.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to patient progress monitoring.
  • Monitor, maintain, and report on therapy equipment and consumables.

Essential Requirements:

  • Relevant third-level qualification in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation, Post-Injury Therapy, or a related discipline.
  • 1-2 years experience in a similar therapy support role.
  • CORU registration or currently in the process of obtaining registration (desirable).
  • A compassionate, patient-centred approach to care.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation techniques, patient safety, and infection prevention and control.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to documentation and detail.
