Job Title: Staff & Senior Grade Occupational Therapist – Acute older adults
Location: South Dublin
Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: 12-Month Agency Contract
Excel Recruitment is currently seeking a Staff & Senior Grade Occupational Therapist on behalf of a Level 2 acute hospital in South Dublin. This exciting opportunity is ideal for an Occupational Therapist who has a strong clinical interest in treating patients aged 65 and over.
In this diverse and dynamic role, the successful candidate will rotate across the hospital’s acute care/unscheduled care services, orthopaedic rehabilitation unit, and inpatient ward-based teams, providing a varied caseload for career growth.
Job Purpose:
To provide high-quality Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to patients presenting through unscheduled care pathways, with a focus on older adults. This role supports safe discharge planning and promotes functional independence through evidence-based rehabilitation practices in a Level 2 acute hospital setting. The post holder will rotate across acute admissions, orthopaedic rehab, and inpatient wards, contributing to the hospital’s commitment to excellent, patient centred care.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver evidence-based Occupational Therapy to patients within unscheduled care and orthopaedic rehab
- Assess, plan, and implement individualised interventions to optimise functional outcomes
- Promote independence and contribute to discharge planning
- Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team including nursing, physiotherapy, medical, and social work colleagues
- Contribute to clinical documentation and audit processes
- Engage in regular supervision and team meetings
- Adapt quickly to changing caseloads and patient needs
Essential Requirements:
- CORU registration as an Occupational Therapist
- For the Staff grade post, a minimum of 1 year post-graduate experience in an acute, hospital, or rehabilitation setting.
- For the Senior grade post, three years experience in an acute, hospital, or rehabilitation setting.
- At least 1 year experience working with patients aged 65 +
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage a busy caseload in a dynamic healthcare environment
