Excel Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for a Specialist Support Worker servicing the Greater Belfast area on a full-time basis for 9 months with possibility of extension.

The Job:

The Specialist Support Worker will provide 24/7 community-based support to Looked After Young People aged 16-21. You’ll work with a small caseload, offering practical, emotional and tenancy-related support to help them thrive in their own homes.

You’ll also:

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Support with mental health, substance misuse, exploitation risks and daily living skills.
  • Create personalised support and risk management plans.
  • Help young people prepare for and sustain their tenancy (budgeting, utilities, repairs, neighbour issues).
  • Encourage engagement in education, training, work and community activities.
  • Liaise with Social Services, Mental Health teams and other agencies.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding, health & safety and lone working procedures.

The Person:

  • Experience supporting Looked After Children, homeless individuals or vulnerable adults to set goals and work through person‑centred plans.
  • Experience in fast‑paced environments involving mental health, substance use, young people’s services or independent living support.
  • Experience supporting young people under 25 any of the following: Care System | Justice System | Prison | Institutional Care | Supported Accommodation.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with confidence using Microsoft Office.
  • Full current driving licence, or alternative transport arrangements if disability prevents driving.
  • NISCC registration (or willingness to register before employment) and ability to undergo Access NI checks.
