Contract: Full-time agency, rolling contract (Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week)

Excel Recruitment are recruiting an Assistant Psychologist to join a Primary Care Adult Psychology team in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a progressive and supportive multidisciplinary team providing psychological support to adults in the community.

The Assistant Psychologist will be based in Castlerea Primary Care Centre and will work under the supervision of a Senior Psychologist within the APSI Primary Care Adult Psychology Service.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical and professional skills as part of a large, well-established Psychology Department serving Mayo and Roscommon, which provides services across Primary Care, CAMHS, Mental Health, and Acute Hospital settings. The department also has strong academic links with the University of Galway and other postgraduate training institutions.

The service has a proud history of mentoring and supporting Psychology Assistants in their professional growth, with many team members progressing successfully into further clinical training. Interested applicants can be connected with a current Assistant Psychologist for insight into the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work within your competence under supervision to provide psychological support to adult service users and groups.
  • Assist in psychological assessments, interventions, and data collection.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary care planning and service development.
  • Support research, audit, and evaluation initiatives within the team.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Minimum 2.1 Honours Degree in Psychology (required for postgraduate training routes).
  • Eligible for Graduate Membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).
  • Previous experience (paid or voluntary) working with adults, families, or mental health services is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Full driver’s licence and access to own transport are essential.
