Working Hours: 3 days per week – Monday to Wednesday

Excel Recruitment is currently recruiting a Physical Therapy Support Assistant to join a HSE, Older Person’s Hospital based, in Newcastle West.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with elderly residents, supporting their daily care needs while assisting with physiotherapy and mobility programmes to promote independence, dignity, and quality of life.

Purpose:

As part of the Older Person Service team, you will support residents with their daily personal care routines while also assisting in preparing and supporting them for scheduled physiotherapy and mobility sessions.

You will play a key role in ensuring residents feel comfortable, supported, and encouraged in maintaining their independence and physical wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents with daily personal care, including washing, dressing, grooming, and preparing for the day.
  • Support residents in getting ready for physiotherapy sessions each day, ensuring safe transfers and mobility assistance as required.
  • Assist with mobility programmes and exercises under the supervision of a Physiotherapist or nursing team.
  • Promote dignity, respect, and independence in all aspects of resident care.
  • Monitor residents’ wellbeing and report any concerns to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate care documentation in line with service standards.
  • Support residents with mealtime assistance where required.
  • Work collaboratively with Nurses, Physiotherapists, and the wider care team to ensure person-centred care delivery.

Essential Requirements:

  • Relevant qualification or experience as a Healthcare Assistant, Therapy Assistant, or similar care role.
  • Experience working with older persons in a residential, community, or hospital setting.
  • Understanding of mobility support and safe manual handling practices.
  • Compassionate, patient-centred approach to care.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
