Excel Recruitment is currently recruiting a Physical Therapist Assistant to join a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team based in Limerick City.

This position offers the chance to support patients with chronic respiratory conditions through structured rehabilitation programmes aimed at improving lung function, stamina, and overall quality of life.

Purpose of the Role:

As a Physical Therapist Assistant on the Pulmonary Rehab Team, your role is to support the delivery of physiotherapy-led rehabilitation services to individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and other respiratory illnesses. You will play a key role in assisting with exercise programmes, patient education, breathing techniques, and functional training under the supervision of a Physiotherapist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation of individualised pulmonary rehabilitation programmes as directed by a registered Physiotherapist.
  • Support patients during group or individual exercise sessions, monitoring progress and providing encouragement and guidance throughout.
  • Educate patients on breathing techniques, energy conservation, and self-management strategies to optimise daily function.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and assist in monitoring patient progress, flagging any concerns to the supervising therapist.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment and therapy space for sessions.
  • Collaborate closely with Physiotherapists, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, and other team members to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and team meetings to enhance service delivery.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support as required within the rehab service.

Essential Requirements:

  • A relevant qualification or recognised training as a Physiotherapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, or similar healthcare support role.
  • A minimum of 1 years experience working in a Pulmonary Rehabilitation setting or with patients with chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of exercise therapy, functional mobility, and rehabilitation support techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and support patients.
  • Ability to work under the supervision of a registered Physiotherapist.
  • Full clean Irish drivers licence and access to own vehicle for any community-based support needs.
