Assistant Occupational Therapist
Job Title: Occupational Therapy Assistant
Location: Navan Hospital
Contract Type: Full-time, 1-year specified purpose contract
Working Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: Aligned with HSE pay scales
Excel Recruitment is currently recruiting an Occupational Therapy Assistant on behalf of Navan Hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic, person-centred Occupational Therapy service supporting individuals to achieve greater independence and improve quality of life.
Purpose of the Role:
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will work under the direction and supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist to support the delivery of therapeutic programmes and interventions. This role involves both clinical and administrative duties, with a focus on enabling service users to develop and maintain functional skills across all areas of daily living.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage your own delegated caseload in line with service needs.
- Support service users in individual and group settings with:
- Personal Activities of Daily Living (PADLs)
- Domestic Activities of Daily Living (DADLs)
- Vocational skills, leisure, and community living activities
- Implement intervention plans developed by the Occupational Therapist.
- Assist with the planning and delivery of therapeutic activities and rehabilitation programmes.
- Prepare resources and therapy spaces for interventions and appointments.
- Carry out administrative and clerical tasks including maintaining accurate service user records and reporting intervention outcomes.
- Support the service with group programme delivery and home visits, as directed.
- Promote engagement in meaningful, purposeful activities to support service users’ occupational roles, self-esteem, and cognitive, social, and physical abilities.
- Liaise with family members, carers, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure continuity and quality of care.
Essential Requirements:
- Hold a Level 5 Certificate in Health Service Skills or Healthcare Support with Occupational Therapy Assistant modules 1 and 2 (QQI accredited).
- OR
- Hold a relevant Level 5 healthcare qualification and agree to complete OT Assistant modules 1 and 2 within one year of appointment.
- OR
- Be currently employed in a relevant healthcare support role (e.g., OT Assistant, Healthcare Assistant, Multi-Task Attendant) with at least one year of experience and agree to complete the relevant training within one year.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and support patients.
