Excel Healthcare are recruiting a permanent Social Worker Team Leader to join a highly experienced Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT) based in Blanchardstown.
This is a very well-supported team, with a Principal Social Worker on the CDNT to provide professional leadership, consultation and supervision, alongside the support of a long-established multidisciplinary team.
This is a permanent, pensionable role with strong supports including regular supervision, protected CPD and clear opportunities for career development. As Team Leader, you will combine high-quality frontline practice with team leadership, contributing to service development, quality improvement and a consistent, family-centred approach across the CDNT.
Job Purpose
As Social Worker Team Leader, you will provide high-quality social work assessment and intervention to children and young people (0-18 years) with disabilities and their families. You will manage a complex caseload, undertake comprehensive psychosocial assessments, develop and review support plans, and ensure practice is strengths-based, rights-based and family-centred.
You will work closely with the CDNT’s multidisciplinary team (e.g. Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology and others as available) to deliver coordinated supports and safe, integrated care. You will provide day-to-day guidance to social work staff (and/or students, as required), support consistent recording and governance standards, and contribute to clinical decision-making-backed by the Principal Social Worker for professional supervision, consultation and practice development.

Role summary:
- Provide social work assessment and intervention to children and families, including complex safeguarding, welfare and psychosocial needs.
- Provide leadership and support to the social work function on the CDNT, including guidance on best practice, prioritisation, and consistent, high-quality recording.
- Work under the direction of the Children’s Disability Network Manager (CDNM) and in partnership with the Principal Social Worker, contributing to service planning, governance and quality improvement.
- Act as a key member of the interdisciplinary team to deliver an integrated, coordinated, family-centred service and strong communication across disciplines.
- Support and empower parents/carers through information, advocacy and signposting, and contribute to group work/parent programmes as appropriate.
- Prepare high-quality reports and documentation; liaise with Tusla (where relevant), schools and community agencies; and coordinate onward referrals in line with agreed pathways.
- Represent the service at relevant meetings, case conferences and governance forums, supporting safe decision-making and collaborative risk management.
You will work with:
- Children and young people with disabilities and their families
- Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT) multidisciplinary colleagues
- Children’s Disability Network Manager and the Principal Social Worker
- Staff across educational settings (preschools, primary/secondary and special schools)
- Relevant statutory and community agencies supporting children and families (e.g. Education, Health, Social, Community and Voluntary Services)
Essential Requirements
- Professional qualification in Social Work recognised for CORU registration
- CORU registration as a Social Worker
- Significant post-qualification experience in children’s services, disability, family support, safeguarding and/or complex needs (team-leading experience desirable)
- Demonstrated ability to work in a strengths-based, trauma-informed and rights-based way with children and families, including experience with safeguarding/welfare concerns and interagency working
- Experience completing comprehensive assessments and producing clear, high-quality reports and care/support plans
- Evidence of leadership in practice, including supporting colleagues and/or students, contributing to service development and promoting quality and governance standards
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
