Staff Grade Physiotherapist – Acute Rehabilitation (Older Persons)

Location: Thurles, Co. Tipperary
Job Type: Full-time, 6-month specified purpose contract with a strong possibility of extension
Salary: HSE Pay Scale (commensurate with experience)

Excel Recruitment are recruiting a Staff Grade Physiotherapist on behalf of an acute rehabilitation Hospital in Thurles.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Physiotherapist who is passionate about geriatric care, functional rehabilitation, and supporting safe discharge planning within a hospital setting. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-centred physiotherapy to older adults recovering from acute illness, surgery, or functional decline.

Acute hospital experience is essential, and the successful candidate will gain valuable experience across frailty, mobility restoration, falls prevention, and rehabilitation-focused care.

This role offers the chance to make a real and visible impact on patient outcomes while developing specialist skills in acute older persons’ services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based physiotherapy interventions to older persons in an acute rehabilitation setting.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with complex medical, neurological, and mobility needs.
  • Work collaboratively with consultants, nursing staff, OTs, SLTs, and social work to support safe and timely discharge planning.
  • Develop and implement individualised rehabilitation programmes focused on function, independence, and quality of life.
  • Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and contribute to goal setting with patients and families.
  • Provide education on mobility, falls prevention, and ongoing rehabilitation needs post-discharge.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold best practice standards within the service.

Essential Criteria

  • BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy with CORU registration.
  • Post-graduate acute hospital experience is essential.
  • Experience or strong interest in older persons / geriatric rehabilitation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational skills and confidence managing a varied caseload in a fast-paced environment
