Excel Recruitment is delighted to partner with a busy, progressive Cardiac Diagnostics Department, in County Galway to recruit a Senior Cardiac Physiologist / Echocardiographer fulltime, working across four days.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Cardiac Physiologist to join our Cardiac Diagnostics Department. This role is open to candidates available for a minimum of three days per week, with full‑time availability preferred.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a high‑quality, patient‑centred cardiac diagnostics service, with a strong emphasis on echocardiography and device follow‑up. Our department holds EACVI Laboratory Accreditation in Echocardiography, and all echocardiograms are performed and reported in line with agreed departmental protocols.
Key Clinical Responsibilities
- Independently performing, interpreting and reporting transthoracic echocardiography.
- Performing pacemaker and ICD / CRT follow‑up clinics and reporting findings
- Performing with Resting ECG
- Performing Exercise treadmill testing (medical and physiologist‑led)
- Performing Ambulatory ECG, event and blood pressure monitoring
- Performing Transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE)
- Dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE)
- Reporting and clearly highlighting abnormal findings.
- Vetting cardiology diagnostic tests.
- Demonstrating flexibility to facilitate urgent and unscheduled cases when required.
- Provide strategic and clinical leadership to support an effective, efficient, quality‑assured and patient‑centred Cardiac Investigation Service.
- Act as a Clinical Advisor to Cardiac Physiologist colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure professional standards are maintained in accordance with IICMS requirements
- Contribute to service planning, waiting list management and service development initiatives.
- Participate actively in clinical audit, quality improvement and performance management.
- Support the Chief II Cardiac Physiologist in ongoing service development and improvement initiatives.
Essential Requirements
- BSc in Clinical Measurement (DIT / TU Dublin)
- BSc or MSc in Clinical Measurement Physiology (ATU Sligo)
- An equivalent Level 8 scientific qualification recognised by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science (IICMS) (Recognition of Qualification)
- Hold the Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) (or equivalent recognised qualification for those qualified pre‑2005)
- Have a minimum of 3 years relevant post‑qualification experience
- Must be competent to perform, interpret and report Echoes independently and perform pacemaker checks and report.
- Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
