Excel Recruitment are recruiting a Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join an Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapy team in a Kildare Hospital.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a leading acute setting with an established and supportive SLT team.

Purpose

To provide Speech and Language Therapy assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for adult inpatients with complex communication and swallowing disorders in an acute hospital setting, contributing to patient outcomes and service development.

About the Department

The Speech and Language Therapy department in this hospital delivers a high-quality, evidence-based service to adults across all acute care areas including Stroke, Age-Related Care, Critical Care, Respiratory, General Medicine, and Surgery.
The department provides consistent Videofluoroscopy and FEES services and places a strong emphasis on supervision, mentorship, and continuous professional development.

The successful candidate will: work closely with an established SLT team, assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders for adult inpatients.

Work as part of a leading acute hospital SLT team.

Manage a complex and varied caseload, with particular focus on neurological conditions and dysphagia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and provide therapy for patients with communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing difficulties.
  • Manage a senior caseload including stroke, neurological conditions, progressive disease, and acutely ill elderly patients
  • Deliver specialist dysphagia interventions using evidence-based best practice.
  • Work closely with the MDT (medical, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy) to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Provide training and education for hospital staff, patients, and families.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records; contribute to audits, research, and service improvement projects.
  • Participate in supervision and ongoing CPD.

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised qualification in Speech & Language Therapy
  • CORU registration (or eligibility)
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, with significant clinical practice in an acute hospital setting.
  • Dysphagia qualification and substantial acute experience in assessment and management.
  • Experience in stroke, neurology, and/or other acute care specialties.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, acute hospital environment.
